Tell us about how you started Ruck and Sandbag training or events:
About two years ago I was looking for something to replace running after I started struggling with pain. A friend of mine told me about rucking- I grabbed an old backpack, threw some weight plates in, and then down the GORUCK rabbit hole I went…
Most Memorable Event or Fitness achievement?:
Probably completing the Bragg HTB this past April, it felt like a full circle moment for me. In 2017/2018 Becoming a mother of two babies with colic/GI issues and having a husband who worked 75+ hours a week was the hardest thing I’ve ever done -but I HAD to do it- so many days I desperately wanted to quit, but I couldn’t. People would commend me on “how strong I was”, but really I was drowning and felt like a total imposter. There was a part of me that didn’t believe I was capable of doing hard things if I had the option to quit. Becoming a mother showed me that I can endure hard things because I have to– but training for/completing the Bragg HTB showed me that I can endure hard things because I choose to not give up.
What are you training for?:
Currently I am training for The Recon Raider HTB in San Diego this November, and also The Rucking Dead HTB in Atlanta (my hometown) this October.
Tell us about why you train with The Bakery?:
When I decided I wanted to attempt to complete The Bragg HTB, I knew I would need structure, guidance, and a community carry the weight with me- literally and figuratively. I had some friends who had trained with Joe in the past, and it was just an easy call. The Bakery has by far been one of the best decisions I’ve made in so many aspects of my training.
What drives you in your fitness journey?:
Proving to myself that I can. I could choose not to do any of this, and it would be a lot easier. I could do much less intense things to benefit my overall health. However, continuing to show up each day proves to myself I am capable of doing things I didn’t think I ever could. It’s intoxicating in the best of ways.
If you could set one fitness-related world record, what would it be?: Probably doing the most pull ups… because I am miserable at them and it would be awesome to throw that in everyone’s face.
If you could train with any athlete (past or present), who would it be and why?:
I guess I kind of have! I’m sure along with many other GORUCK females, I was so inspired watching Allison Grubbs complete Selection this past year. Getting to line up with her at Bragg and spend hours next to her during arguably the most mentally challenging portion of the HTB for me was really awesome. Thanks Allison for being the most kind and inspiring BAMF to be in the stack with.
What’s the best piece of fitness advice you’ve ever received?:
The magic is in the journey, there is no finish line. Just keep going.
