Tell us about how you started Ruck and Sandbag training or events (if applicable).
After the birth of my second son I was looking for an exercise style and community that I could stand behind and fit in as a family activity. I decided that I was going to try GORUCK out and never left.
Most Memorable Event or Fitness achievement?
I achieved my Black Belt in an Okinawan based Karate as a teenager, but really the most memorable is getting back on the mats in BJJ as an adult while watching my children follow in my foot steps.
What are you training for?
Life. I’m not a doomsday prep-er but I never intend for me nor my family to be unable to protect and provide for our own. And let’s be honest, it just feels good to be active. I also pride myself that if needed I could haul my 7, 6, and 4 year olds out of a bad situation.
Tell us about why you train with The Bakery?
The community. While primarily virtual, when we do meet up it feels like we’ve known each other for many many years. I’ve been with Joe going on 4 years now and I couldn’t imagine saying goodbye. Also, Joe has been with me through all stages of life- postpartum with my 3rd child, healthy and making gains, hurt and recovering, and now again as I prepare to welcome my 4th child into this world. He really is great at meeting you where you are.
What drives you in your fitness journey?
Originally it was all the “shoulds.” I should do xyz to be healthy, should this, should that. But now it’s a lifestyle that I’m glad to have the Bakery as a resource.
If you could set one fitness-related world record, what would it be?
The women’s 24 hr pull-up record. What a hoss.
If you could train with any athlete (past or present), who would it be and why?
I’d go back in time and train with some ancient tribal civilizations. Maybe some of the great warriors from the far East or other martial arts rooted in culture that we could never understand fully.
What’s the best piece of fitness advice you’ve ever received?
Never give up. It’s not quitting until you resign yourself to not try again.
